Obituary For Mrs. Mary Sanks Kelly

Kelly, Mrs. Mary Sanks, a resident of Salem, AL, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Bethany House Hospice in Auburn, AL.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 12:00 Noon from Salem Chapel A.M.E. Church, Salem, AL, Rev. Kendra Jacobs, Pastor, Pastor Douglas Perry, Eulogist, Elder James Q. Smith, Officiant.

Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Salem, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary directing.

Public Viewing is scheduled for Friday, January 25, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel, 305 W. F. Burns Drive, Valley, AL (all times eastern).

Mary Sanks Kelly was born January 21, 1932 to Willie and Rebecca Miles Sanks in Seale, Alabama. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined New Hope C. M. E. Church in Salem, AL. She was a faithful member and loved attending church. Her education was received at Salem School in Salem.

Affectionately called “Madear”, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends and spreading love and joy to everyone she met. As she would always say “y’all/you look so pretty – Umm Hmm, that’s right.”

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, James Kelly; two sisters, Ethel Jackson and Curtis Jean Williams; two brothers, Williams James Sanks and Eddie Roy Sanks; a son, Donnie Sanks; and, a granddaughter, Shanquetta Sanks. Mrs. Mary Sanks Kelly transitioned to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Bethany House Hospice in Auburn, AL.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by: two sons, Bobby (Jeannette) Sanks, Salem, AL and David (Gwendolyn) Sanks, Columbus, GA; three daughters, Gloria (the late Rev. James) Owens, Auburn, AL, Rebecca Holloway, LaFayette, AL and Betty (Franklin) Knight, Opelika, AL; 11 grandchildren, Jerry (Angela) Holloway, Phenix City, AL, Dewana (Derrick) Blackmon, Kimberly (Bishop) Moss, Crystal (Anthony) Driver, Sr. all of Opelika, AL, Jamelia Owens, Auburn, AL, Quanesha (Rodney) Cohen, Jr., Salem, AL, Dontavian (Jasmine) Sanks and Brittaney (Terence) Morris both of Columbus, GA, Candace Seroyer and Orshanda Seroyer both of Cleveland, OH and Sharon Knight, Waverly, AL; 12 great-grandchildren, Aariyan Tooley-Holloway and Alyssia Holloway both of Phenix City, AL, James Owens –Moss, Jakayla Moss, Jadaa Moss, AJ Driver and Akeila Driver all of Opelika, AL, Xyliah Sanks, Salem, AL, Aaliyah Morris, Dontavian Sanks, Johntavion Sanks and Kerion Sanks all of Columbus, GA; one great-great-grandchild, Braxton Moss, Opelika, AL; two sisters, Myrtis (William) Williams, Prince George, VA and Dorothy Brown, Columbus, GA; a special niece, Jackquline Hill, Salem, AL; a special nephew, John (Tonya) Williams, Opelika, AL nieces, Helen Sanks Young, Auburn, AL, Joy Williams, Richmond, VA and Cathy Brown, Columbus, GA; goddaughter, Martha Jean (Rev. Michael) Stevenson, LaFayette, AL; and, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
