The son of the late Edward "Eddie" Kirkland and Ida M. Shoulders Kirkland, Sergeant Kirkland was born in Detroit, MI. He was a United States Army Veteran of 21 years who was active with the Army Boxing League. He held the Golden Glove title for the most knockouts during his tenure with Amateur Boxing Alliance. He also retired following 20 years as a security guard with Angel Security. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Kirkland.
Surviving his departure with cherished memories, include: his beloved wife of 41 years, Mrs. Mal Cha Lee Kirkland; a son, Terrance Kirkland; three grandsons, Nehemiah, Tehemiah and Isaiah Kirkland; one brother, Orland Kirkland; five sisters, Joann Kinney-Williams (Edward), Vernadine Kirkland-Richardson (Robert), Jerdine Kirkland, Burnette Mundy (Leroy) and Marlean Kirkland-Pope; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Sergeant Kirkland will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 at 12 noon at the Progressive Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Reverend Ernest L. Gordon will officiate.
Visitation is Thursday, 1 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
