Mr. John Lovelace, age 69,of West Point, GA transitioned on July 18, 2025 at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, GA.
Funeral Services for Mr. John S. Lovelace will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Keeney Memorial United Methodist Church, 703 Avenue K, West Point, GA 31833 with Rev. Brenda Pritchett Rhodes serving as the eulogist.
Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Austin Street, West Point, GA.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. EST until 6:00 p.m. EST at the M.W. Lee Mortuary.
John was born on October 4, 1955, in West Point, Georgia, to the late George Henry (Blue) Lovelace, Sr., and Lillie Bell Thomas Lovelace. From an early age, John radiated a vibrant spirit and a passion for life that inspired everyone around him
John S. Lovelace, was the eighth child born this union. On Friday, July 18, 2025, John answered his call from the Lord and departed this life Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, Georgia.
John received his diploma from West Point High in May 1974. After graduating, he attended Alabama State University with a full scholarship to play football. He was an exceptional athlete, admired not only for his physical talent but for his dedication, sportsmanship, and drive. Whether on the field, the court, or the track, he gave his all and led by example. Beyond athletics, John was a devoted brother, loyal friend, and kind-hearted soul who brought joy and excitement into every room he entered. His life was full of adventures, stories, and unforgettable moments that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
John will be missed dearly by his family, friends, teammates, and all who had the privilege of sharing in his journey. His energy, humor, and zest for life leaves an indelible mark on all of us.
John was employed by West Point Pepperell and the City of West Point, where he retired. He also did carpentry work for himself in his spare time. He joined the LaGrange Masonic Lodge in LaGrange, Georgia, where he served until his health failed.
John accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Keeney Memorial United Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. Grimm. He served as a Steward.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Shirley Lovelace Kingu, and Constance Lovelace Smith and a Raymond Lovelace.
He will forever be in the hearts of his friends and loved ones. He leaves to cherish his memories: his siblings, Janie Lovelace Ransom, George Henry “Boy” (Regina) Lovelace, Penny Lovelace Ward, Lanett, Alabama; Yvonne Lovelace Mwikuta, and Jennifer Lovelace Copeland, West Point, Georgia; two devoted friends, Mike O’Brien, Richard Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
