Mr. Deacon Floyd “Screwtail” Wallace, Jr., age 86, of West Point, GA, gained his wings into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice, LaGrange, GA.

Funeral Services for Deacon Floyd “Screwtail” Wallace, Jr., will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 12:00 (noon) EST in the sanctuary of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1111 E. 10th Street, West Point, GA, with Rev. Travis D. Porter, II, Pastor and Rev. Tommie Gilbert, Eulogist.

Interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery, 400 - 498 E. 12th Street, West Point, GA 31833


Public viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the M. W. Lee Mortuary.

Deacon Floyd Wallace, Jr. was born on March 24, 1939, to the late Jack and Mattie Penn Wallace. He departed this life on July 15, 2025, at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice, LaGrange, Georgia.

Floyd was an employee for the City of West Point, Georgia, at a young age. He eventually retired from the Coca-Cola Company after working as a truck driver for 36 years.

Known by many around the community as “Screwtail”, Floyd was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He tried to never miss a good night of watching WWE Wrestling. He was the founding member of the Soul Social Club of West Point, Georgia. Floyd served his community with a passion. In connection with a local farmer, he decided to hand out bananas to nearby senior citizens, families, and assisted living homes in the area. Local news reports playfully called him the “banana man”.

Deacon Wallace was a good and faithful servant to Christ through Bethlehem Baptist Church of West Point, Georgia. Over the course of many years of membership, he served as a deacon and trustee. He also oversaw space/facilities and transportation. He worked closely alongside the late Dr. W. T. Edmondson and was instrumental in the growth and building of the current church that stands today.

He also was of great servitude to his lodge. Brother Wallace was a faithful member of the Shawmut Masonic Lodge 165, Lanett, Alabama, Free & Accepted, Ancient Yourkrite Masons, State of Alabama for over 50 years! He was a 32nd degree Mason and formerly served as the past grand junior deacon of the state. He also served as the Past President of the Opelika District and Past local Potentate of Khedive Temple No. 3, Lanett, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He assisted and led many charitable projects in the lodge.

Floyd “Screwtail” Wallace, Jr., leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness and quiet strength. His hands built a life for his family and helped shape a community. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and three grandchildren.

Deacon Wallace leaves to cherish his memories: his precious wife of 48 years, Annie Bell Wallace of West Point, GA; his loving daughter, Yolanda Robinson of Atlanta, GA; his beloved sons, Christopher C. Wallace of Columbus, GA, McKenzie Wallace of West Point, GA, Norris (Vernita) Wallace of Chicago, IL, and Freddie Earl Wallace of Milwaukee, WI; sisters, Anita (Aaron) Smith of West Point, GA, Janice McFarlin of West Point, GA, and Carolyn Buchanan of Chicago, IL; godbrother, Ann (Wayne) Poindexter of West Point, GA; goddaughter, Racinta Styles of Atlanta, GA; uncle, Walter Wallace of West Point, GA; aunt, Mattie Penn of Chicago, IL; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
