Obituary For Aquanella Joyce Lane

Thrash and Sons Funeral Home respectfully announce the passing of Ms. Aquanella Joyce Lane, formerly of Houston, Texas on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at her home at 307 Boozer Street in Hogansville, Georgia.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 12:00 noon at St. Mary United Methodist Church, 100 Pine Street, Hogansville, Georgia. Pastor Elaine Gilbert will officiate and interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Aquanella Joyce Lane of Hogansville, Georgia, was born April 29, 1953, in Anniston, Alabama. She transitioned from this life on October 27, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Frances Lane and Jessie Lee Lane, two brothers, John Lane and James Matthew Lane, two sisters, Irene Lane and Bettye Render, and one niece, Tiffany Lane Harmon.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a life-long member of Haven United Methodist Church of Anniston, Alabama. While Aquanella lived in Houston, she was an associate member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Aquanella graduated from Cobb Avenue High School in Anniston, Alabama, in 1971. She received her Bachelor’s degree in 1975 from Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky. While at Kentucky State University, she received a study abroad fellowship to India. During her time in India, it was her honor to meet and talk to Mother Theresa.

Although Aquanella majored in Elementary Education, her career was in the business arena. She started her career as an Export Supervisor at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company in Louisville, Kentucky. She continued her business career in Houston, Texas, as a Licensed Customs House Broker with BAX and SDV, where she was responsible for clearing imported and exported goods through Customs into the United States and from all over the world. As a two-time breast cancer survivor, Joyce loved participating in and supporting various breast cancer charities and support groups. Joyce fiercely loved her friends and family and believed in living her life to the fullest. Besides participating in Cancer Walks and Runs, Joyce’s bucket list included the following: playing on a women’s ice hockey team, snorkeling, white water rafting, deep sea fishing, parasailing, golfing and horseback riding. Aquanella belonged to a cycling group that did 50 to 100 mile distance rides. One of May’s highlights for her was attending the Kentucky Derby each year. Joyce loved to travel and experience different cultures. In addition to several Caribbean cruises, Joyce visited India, Holland, Greece, Rome, Barbados, Jamaica, and Mexico. As a recent retiree, Joyce moved to Hogansville from Houston and enjoyed her free time gardening and taking care of her furry kids, Tui and Finn. She believed in staying active and was a member of Planet Fitness and was proud to be a “mall walker”.

Aquanella leaves to cherish her memory: two sisters, Dr. Rebecca Lane Harmon (Daniel) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Kay Lane Woodson (Lu) of Conyers, Georgia; two brothers, Robert Lane of Austell, and Donald Gregory Lane (Wanda) of Denver, Colorado: nieces, Jennifer McClain of Riverdale, Georgia, Dr. Ashley Harmon of Champagne, Illinois, and Dr. Jessica Woodson of Hapeville, Georgia; nephews, Ronald Lane, Shelly McClain of Alexandria, Virginia, and Nicolas Elijah Woodson (Maria) of Decatur, Georgia; two aunts, Mrs. Naomi Moore of Anniston, Alabama, and Mrs. Irma Lane of Wedowee, Alabama; and a host of cousins and friends.

May God bless you in your time of deep sorrow,"while you throw all your anxiety o, him because he cares for you" (1Pet. 5:7).

Aquanella was a dear lady, always friendly, helpful, and kind. She had a positive outlook regardless of the situation. I was fortunate to know Aquanella for a year prior to my departure from Bollore Atlanta. My prayers are with the family. I know she is having a joyous heavenly reunion with her sister.
