Ms. Sylvia Melton Sands, age 73, of Lanett, AL, transitioned on May 11, 2025 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Atlanta, GA.


Funeral Services for Ms. Sylvia Melton Sands will be held at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the Pilgrim Baptist Church, 420 12th Avenue, Lanett, Alabama 36863, with Rev. Dr. Frederick James, Pastor, Eulogist.

Interment will follow in the Hill Crest Cemetery, 420 Country Club Road, Lanett, Alabama.


Public viewing will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the M.W. Lee Mortuary.

Ms. Sylvia E. Melton Sands was born September 27, 1951, to the late Edith Melton and James
Owens. She peachfully gained her wings and took flight on Sunday , May 11, 2025 at Piedmont
Hospital in Atlanta, GA.


Sylvia joined Pilgrim Baptist Church in Lanett, AL, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. W. H.
Randney. She was a faithful and dedicated member of YWA, Usher board, and Matrons. She
attended the Soul Food Bible Study and Senior Saints.


Sylvia was a graduate of Lanier High School Class of 1969. She was previously employed at
Fairview Mill with over 30years of dedicated service.
She is precede in death by her mother, Edith Melton; her father, James Owens; her youngest
daughter, Aries Sands; her brother, Joseph Bernard Melton; loving aunts and uncles: Emma
Kate Eli, Dorothy Melton, Catherine Strong, Annie Ruth Tibbs, Otis Melton and Willie Lewis
Melton.


Sylvia was joined in marriage to the late Nathaniel Sands.


She leaves to cherish her memories and legacy of love to her devoted daughter, Sandricka
(Melvin) Mosley; a loving son, Jevon (LaShonda) Sands; grandchildren: Zachaeus Mosley,
Sylvia (Cookie) Mosley, Keavis Sands, Zion Lynch, Jabrious Lynch, Zaven Lynch, Anastasia
Sands, Jamonya Sands, Aneres Sands, Na’Shawn, Sands, Isaiah Green, Alaina Sands, and
Chyna Frazier; great grandchildren Koa, Ivory, Legacy, Zahir, Jaire, Aurora, A’maura, Alani,
Nevaeh, and Aubree. Sisters: Elizatheth Melton and Felicia Melton, uncle, George Melton Jr.
Loving extended family, Lelia B. Sands, Delores (Edward) Simmons, Carlton Sands, and
Frances Sands. God sister, Michelle Magby and friend Doris Gibson, special nephew, Dereke
Melton, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
