Mr. Homer “27” Benton, Jr., a resident of Lanett, AL, died Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at his residence.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 12:00 Noon (EST) from Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 1601 Magnolia Road, Lanett, AL, Rev. Justin Freeman, Pastor/Officiating and Bishop Carterris Tucker, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Lanett, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.

Public Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.

Homer Benton, Jr., was born on March 7, 1947, in Chambers County,
Alabama, to the late Homer Benton Sr., and Iola Griggs Benton.
Throughout his life, he was affectionately called “27 or JJ Dillon.”


On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, as Homer approached his last hours,
he was surrounded by his family to bid him a safe journey. He bid
farewell to his loved ones and entered into eternal peaceful rest with
the Lord.


At an early age, Homer accepted Christ as His Lord and Savior and
united with the Mount Hermon Baptist Church. He possessed a
radiant personality that reflected love, cheerfulness, patience, and
kindness. He was truly an inspiration to his family and to his many
friends.


Homer was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Fears Benton;
siblings, Willie Charles Benton, Dorothy Ruth Benton, Arthur Charles
Benton, Willie Louis Ferrell, and Tommy Lee “Teddy” Benton. He was
also preceded in death by two special nieces, Mae Aggie Trammell and
Kim “Diane” Benton; two special nephews, Norman Charles Walker
and Daniel Benton; father in-law and mother-in-law, O. C. Fears and
Mary Lizzie Fears.


He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving son, Alden Marcellus
(Leslie) Benton; precious granddaughter, Lacresa Benton; two devoted
sisters, Mary Helen Walker and LeVorn Ferrell; a loving devoted
brother, George Benton; he reared two nieces and one nephew; LeShon
Benton (Eddie) Bledsoe, Minister Bobbie Benton Ogletree, and Morris
(Angela) Ramsey; three sisters- in- law, Annie Lee Hall, Rebecca
Bailey, and Dr. Tanda J. Canion; Caretaker, Bobbie (Anthony) Carter;
loving friend and caretaker, J. T. Ramsey. He is also survived by a host
of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
