Mary Dianne “Di” Costley-Fitzgerald

03/26/1957 - 04/18/2025

Mary Dianne “Di” Costley-Fitzgerald, age 68, passed away on April 18, 2025, in Athens, Georgia surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 26, 1957, in Tucker, Georgia, Dianne lived a vibrant and spirited life marked by creativity, resilience, and deep devotion to her loved ones.

Dianne was the beloved wife of Don Fitzgerald and a devoted mother to her daughter Kristal Dobbs and son-in-law Bryan. She cherished her role as “YaYa” to her grandchildren Peyton and Mason Dobbs, who brought immense joy to her life. Her love for family extended deeply to her mother Lynnette Ireland; sisters Connie Tuggle (Johnny), Cindy Kister (Mike), and Robin Whitlock (Wilson); and brother Jeff Costley (Eddie). She also held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews: Mandy Coles, Nevada Tuggle, Jeremy Whitlock, Heather Martinez, Grant Costley, and Anna Manning.

Dianne was preceded in death by her father Ralph A. Costley; paternal grandparents Ralph and Claudine Costley; maternal grandparents Eugene and Dartha Chambers; and nephew Bo Tuggle.

Known for her spunky spirit and determined nature, Dianne approached life with energy and enthusiasm. She found joy in the simple pleasures—tending to her garden with care, expressing herself through painting and other arts, and discovering treasures while thrifting. Her creativity was matched only by the warmth she extended to those around her.

Throughout her courageous battle with ovarian cancer, Dianne remained full of life. Her strength inspired those who knew her, as did the love she poured into every relationship she held dear.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2025, at the home she shared with Don at 145 Jade Drive in Athens, Georgia (30605). Further details will be shared as they are finalized. Dianne requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local animal shelter.

May the memory of Mary Dianne “Di” Costley-Fitzgerald bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
