January 2, 1937 – March 16, 2025

James Kelly Trussell, 88, entered into eternal life on Sunday, March 16, 2025. He was born in Blacksburg, Virginia, on January 2, 1937, to the late Thomas and Ida Trussell. At the age of 10, he left Blacksburg to live with his maternal grandparents in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

James graduated from William Penn High School in Harrisburg in June 1955. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a vehicle mechanic for 25 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. He served domestically in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Florida, California, Virginia, North Carolina, and overseas in Germany, Vietnam, and Korea.

After retiring in January 1981, James entered federal civil service, serving as a maintenance inspector for the Bradley fighting vehicle at Ft. Benning, Georgia, where he worked until his retirement in December 1999.

James loved the Lord with all his heart and was a faithful member and elder at Rock Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Georgia, for 40 years. He enjoyed college and professional football (especially the Dallas Cowboys), singing in church, studying languages (especially Korean), teaching Sunday school, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his five brothers, four sisters, his daughter, Deidra Trussell, and two grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 46 years, Sok Song; his sister, Nancy Cook, of Atlanta, Texas; two sons, Jeffery (Carrie) Trussell and Victor (Barbara) Trussell of Bryan, Texas; three daughters, Belinda (Dave) Hartwell of Middleburg, Florida, Lutricia Trussell of College Station, Texas, Audrey Trussell of Bryan, Texas; 17 grandchildren, and a host of great- and great-great-grandchildren and friends.

The family will receive friends for a viewing at Progressive Funeral Home, 4235 St. Marys Road, Columbus, GA 31907, on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Progressive. After cremation, James will be inurned at the Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, Georgia.
