Mr. Sammie Lee “Bubba” Benton, Jr., a resident of Lanett, AL, died Friday, February 28, 2025 in Valley, AL.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. (EST) from Zion Rest Baptist Church Heard Center, Valley, AL, Rev. Frederick Stanley, Pastor, Rev. John Flournoy, Jr., Officiant, and Rev. Charles Magby, Sr., Eulogist.
Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Lanett, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.
Public Viewing is scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. (EST) at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.
Mr. Sammie Lee Benton, Jr. was born
March 19, 1945 in Chambers County,
Alabama to the late Mr. Sammie Lee
Benton, Sr. and Mrs. LaRuth Griggs
Benton. He accepted Christ as his Savior
and joined the Mount Hermon Baptist
Church in Lanett, Alabama under the
leadership of the late Rev. Louis Upshaw.
Sammie was educated in the Chambers County Public
School System. He attended Drew Junior High School
and graduated from Rehobeth High School, Class of
1966.
He was employed by West Point Stevens in the
Bleachery Department. He was also employed by Janice
Burton as Manager of Potts Beauty Shop and was the
best “shoe shiner” ever. Sammie was a “War Eagle” fan,
but most of all he loved himself the Lanett Panthers. He
was also a softball player.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Tommy,
Charles, James Billy, Herman and Lucille. Sammie Lee
Benton, Jr. departed this life on Friday, February 28,
2025 at his residence in Valley, Alabama.
Loving memories will be cherished by: his loving and
devoted sister, Irelia B. Magby; his nieces, Toni Benton,
Tammy (Teddy) Morris, Michelle Magby, LaKeyta
Martin, Patricia (Jerry) Tucker, Barbara , and Annadale,
Jennifer (Robert) Holloway and Debra (Rev. Willie Joe)
Fears; his nephews, Charles (Shenetia) Magby, Richard
Magby, Julian (May) Magby, Scott (Naomi) Magby,
Terrrance (Jahaida), James Benton, and Tony Dozier;
sister-in-law, Elaine Benton; his caregiver, Tameka
Johnson; his little nurse, Eilyn Magby; two devoted
friends, Jessie Lyons and Minister Clifford Story;
special friends, Monique Hall, Janice Burton, Rev. John
Flournoy, Jr., Shannon Boyd, Gene McClure, and Mary
Shealey; and a host of other relatives and friends.
