We regretfully announce the passing of Mrs. Emma Jean Matthews Benning, age 75, of Grantville, Georgia on Friday, January 3, 2025 at her residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Macedonia Baptist Church located at 824 Goldmine Road in Grantville, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Minister Adrian Hill, Eugolist and Pastor Johnny C. Strickland, Presiding.
Public viewing we be held on Friday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
Emma Jean Matthews Benning was born November 16, 1949, in Meriwether
County. Emma was the youngest daughter of Cora and Charlie Matthews.
Emma accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia Baptist church. Emma
attended Greenville Consolidated High-school where she earned her diploma
in 1967. After completing high school, Emma made the decision to move to
Cleveland Ohio were she enrolled in trade school and eventually started her
career as a state auditor until her retirement in 1996. She joined New Light
Baptist Church, where she served as the president of the usher board. Being
the busy body that she is, she started her second career at Lutheran High
School East, Emma Jean was also a member of the Lutheran East Booster Club
where she started the Falcon Wings. Until she migrated back to her roots in
Grantville Ga.
A faithful servant of the Lord, Emma Jean was an active member of
Macedonia Baptist Church, where she served as an usher, fundraiser, served
on the kitchen committee, read the church announcements, and any other
tasks that needed to be done within the church, and where she served
faithfully until her health declined. Emma Jean also volunteered and was a
member of Auxiliary Unit 75 at the Baxter L. Schaub, American Legion Post 75
LaGrange, by way of her late father and brothers who served in the military.
Emma Jean is survived by her five sons, Kervin (Tania), Jason, Derrick and
Charles Jr. (Monique), Carlos, daughters in love, Rachel and Michelle, sister in
laws Frances & Patricia, a special sister in love Mattie Ruth, one brother,
Frederick, grandchildren, Caesarae, Alicia, Tierra, Kevin, Ke-shaun and
Chyanne, sisters in Christ, Matricia and Gwendolyn, god daughters Kem,
Cierra, a host of nieces and nephews she truly adored, cousins and other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie & Cora Matthews, one
sister Rose Ann, three brothers, Charlie William, John Marshall, James
Eugene, 2 sister in laws Lydia & Arlena, one brother in law Johnny.
