We regretfully announce the passing of Mrs. Lera Buggs Nelson of Hampton, Georgia on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange.
Lera Buggs Nelson was born June 21, 1957 to the late Charlie & Carrie Lee Buggs in
Whitesville, Ga. She attended Harris County High School with the class of 1975. She was a
dedicated employee of Kmart Distribution and JcPenney Outlet in Atlanta, GA for over 30
years. She also took pride in being a transport driver for Logisticare ( dialysis patients). She
joined Jehovah Baptist Church at a very early age and served faithfully until her health severely
declined.
Lera was joined in matrimony to Alvin Bernard Nelson July 11, 1976, to this union two sons were
born, Derek Vinal Nelson and Pierre Travaris Nelson.
Her nurturing spirit and God given talent was cooking, baking, encouraging, and bringing
laughter and joy to everyone that she encountered.
Lera is survived by husband of 48 years Alvin Nelson, two sons- Derek Nelson( Dominique
Brown) and Pierre Nelson ( Gerry Kemp). Three granddaughters- Ciara Walter, Calice Nelson
and Chantise Brown. Mother in law- Mamie Lou Nelson( Hamilton, Ga).Three sisters - Judy
Johnson Cynthia Kelley(Lagrange Ga), and Marian/ Robert Graddick (Decatur, Ga). One sister
in law- Linda (Linez Hollis). One brother in law- Bobby Nelson ( Hamilton, GA). Three brothers-
Robert Maddox( East Point, Ga), Charlie(Brenda) Buggs (Columbus, Ga). Melvin Buggs (
Lagrange, GA). Two best friends : Ruby Stanley ( Columbus, Ga) and Janie Davis ( Griffin, Ga).
One God daughter- Carla Twine ( Hampton, Ga). She leaves to cherish a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, fur babies (Skylar, Tyson, and Cali), and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Jehovah Baptist Church located at 4499 Pine Lake Road, West Point, Georgia 31833.
Apostle Dr. B. J. Willis officiating, Bishop Donald Lancaster, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held Friday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
