Anthony Bernard Smith, the son of the late John and Gladys Billingslea Smith, was born November 10, 1958, in Chambers County, AL. He gained his wings into eternal rest on Sunday, March 25, 2024 at Piedmont Medical Center, Columbus, GA.
“Dink” or “Polly”, as he was known by many, attended schools in New York, Chicago and West Point. Anthony loved working on cars. He would spend hours working on cars making sure that they were in top condition. He was employed by Trailway Bus in Montgomery, AL, and retired from Hussey Tire Company in Columbus, GA, where he was the lead auto technician. He enjoyed working with the public and also greeted the customer with a cheerful smile.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; aunts, SuVrenda Summers, Victoria Billingslea, Clara Jackson and Barbara Broughton; uncles, Arthur and George Billingslea Jr., Homer, Jr., Pete, Paul, Lewis, Homer”Fatty” and Charlie Ray.
Anthony leaves to cherish wonderful memories; two step kids, whom he loved as his own, Lasonia and Marco Johnson; a very special cousin James (Flip) Jackson, who was, also, a caregiver; one uncle, Jeffery Billingslea; five aunts, Kathy Billingslea, Linda Palmer, Marjorie and Gloria Billinglsea, and Aunt Tammy; a host of cousins, and other relatives and friends; extended family of love; Sherry, a very special friend that became one of his caregivers.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Marseilles Cemetery, 400-498 E. 12th Street, West Point, GA with Rev. James Jackson serving as the eulogist.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
