Brenda ” Bren” Slaughter Hodo

Mrs. Brenda Ann Slaughter -Hodo “Bren” the daughter of Annie Virginia Slaughter and the late David Dixon Mckenzie-McQueen was born October 24th, 1961 in West Point, Georgia. On Monday August 21, 2023, God sent his Angels to bring her home.

Brenda accepted Christ as her personal savior. She received her education in Troup County School System. “Bren,” as she was known by many continued her education at West Georgia Technical College with associates degree in Science. Bren worked in the home health care industry for many years and loved providing services to her patients. .

Bren was employed by Interface Flooring, Inc., West Point, Georgia for many years. She loved her job at Interface Flooring. She was the overtime Queen! She enjoyed working and on her off days gambling at the casino. Bren loved to hang on East 9th Street with friends and family. Bren was known for riding around Blasting Smokey Robinson music and driving fast.

In the West Point people voice! Cat Slaughter will be truly missed! She would say what she meant! And meant what she said. She had a name for everybody! She was always herself though, she was loved by many! She was well known for her and Sonnie arguing in public! Bren will be truly missed.

Bren was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

She was preceded in death by her father, David Dixon McKenzie-McQueen, her lifetime friend/ child father, Harold Gilliam, her sister, Annie “Tricia “ Floyd, her brothers, David Dixon McKenzie, Jr., Wendell Mckenzie, her aunt Christine Wilson and a special life time friend, Jerolyn Johnson

She leaves to cherish her husband Willie C. Hodo of LaGrange, Georgia, her son, Harold Lamon Slaughter, Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Fresheta Slaughter, Keomeshia (Timothy) Brooks West Point, GA; three grandsons, Zor’Torian Slaughter, Markhyus Slaughter, Damarcion Slaughter; one granddaughter, Trakireya Slaughter; three sisters, Vivian Jones McKenzie, Sandra (Tyrice Humphrey )Wetumpka, Alabama, Amanda McQueen. Brooklyn, New York;
three brothers, James Brown, Rev. Michael (Julia ) Slaughter, Bruce (Clarissa) Slaughter of West Point Georgia; two aunts, Dorothy Jean Edwards, Wetumpka, Alabama, Jacquelyn (Alfred) Ford, Riverdale, Georgia; three uncles, Homer(Linda) Newton, Pal Newton and Carey Newton, West Point, Georgia; her lifetime best Friend, Ms. Gail Murphy, whom she loved, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and her interface co-workers.


Homegoing Celebration will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1111 E. 10th Street, West Point, GA with the Rev. Dr. W. T. Edmondson, Pastor, Rev. Michael Slaughter, Eulogist, Overseer G. L. Fanning, Rev. Jaylin Gates, Bishop G. Winston Fanning and Minister Bobbie Ogletree, assisting.

Interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery, 400-498 E. 12th Street, West Point, Georgia.


Public viewing will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
