Frances King Smith

Ms. Frances King Smith passed away quietly Tuesday in Columbus, GA at the blessed age of 93.

A native of Buena Vista, GA and the daughter of the late Willie Mercer and Rose Bud Gardner King, Ms. Smith had resided in Columbus most of her life and was a 1948 graduate of William H. Spencer High School. She was the co-owner and operator of the iconic soul food restaurant, Cedar Hill Snack Bar. During her tenure, she along with her sisters served a large community of local and military patrons. She retired after 45 years of dedicated service. She was a devout member of New Bethel A.M.E. Church.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Lee Simmons and eight siblings, Susie Berger, Mae Pearl Hollis, David King, Rosa King, Samuel King, S.T. King, Daisy Myles and Eloise Nesbitt.

Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Golden-Frasier (Nathan); a sister, Lovis K. Greene; grandchildren, Antonio Clinton (Shawna), Chenelle Golden, Frederick Simmons, Jr, Lovis Simmons, and Precious Simmons; a stepson, Herbert Hill Woods; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ms. Smith will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park on Friday, June 23, 2023 after a 1:00 PM Homegoing Celebration in the sanctuary of New Bethel A.M.E. Church, officiated by retired Pastor Richard A. Yancey.

Visitation is 1:00 til 5:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
