Obituary For Percy James Pickett

Carter Funeral Home announces the transition of Mr. Percy James Pickett of Montgomery, Alabama.

Mr. Pickett, age 89, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at his residence while surrounded by the comfort of his loving family.

Mr. Pickett, a retiree of the United States Air Force, created a legacy that will long be cherished by his family and several friends.

The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.

The Farewell Life Celebration will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 2:00 pm from the sanctuary of the First Missionary Baptist Church, of Union Springs, AL.

The eulogy will be delivered by Pastor Gary Lewis.

Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Alabama Heritage Cemetery, Montgomery, AL.

In accordance with recommended COVID-19 Protocols, all attendees are requested to utilize appropriate facial coverings, maintain social distancing, and minimize physical contact.

MR. PERCY JAMES PICKETT was born on April 19, 1934
to the late Ms. Mattie Mae Golthy and Mr. Joseph Fuller.


Percy accepted Christ at an early age at Clinton Chapel
A.M.E. Zion church in Montgomery Alabama.


Percy was an Honor graduate of the Booker T. Washington High
School Class of 1952. Upon graduation, Percy entered the United
States Air Force (USAF) where he retired as a Technical Sergeant
after serving 23 years. Always seeking knowledge, during his
tenure in the USAF , he completed numerous courses to include;
1)Management Course for Air Force Supervisor, Tyndall Air Force
Base, 2)Leadership and Personnel Management Course, Gunter Air
Force Base, 3)Officer Candidate Correspondence Course, Gunter
Air Force Base, 4) Military Affairs Course, USAF Extension Course
Institute just to name a few.


Upon retirement from the Air Force, Percy worked with the
Farmers Home Administration while pursuing his Bachelor’s and
Master’s Degrees in Personnel Management from Troy University
Montgomery, AL.


He continued his government service by working in the United
States Postal Service where he retired after 19 years, completing
over 41 years of Federal Service. After retirement he spent his time
working in the yard, gardening, and painting.


Percy departed this life on Monday, May 29th at home with his
family. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Margaret O.
Pickett; Daughter, Rita Pickett; Step-son, Aundra Reynolds; One
Sister, Dorothy Terrell, all of Montgomery, AL; Two brothers-in-law,
Sylvester (Mercy) Owens, Union Springs, AL and James A. Owens,
Buffalo, NY. One Sister-in-law, Ida Lois Shepherd, Montgomery, AL;
Two grandchildren Tatyanna and Andreal Reynolds; and one great-
grandson Blaze Dent , Decatur, GA and a host of other relatives and
friends.


Several special nieces: Barbara Nettles, Kisha Williams, Evelyn
Nelson, Renia Harris, Rosemary Tate & Diane Owens
