O b i t u a r y Annie Barker, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, sister, aunt, friend, and faithful servant was born December 25, 1939, to the late Belton, Sr., and Annie Walker in Perote, AL.

Ann confessed Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health no longer allowed.

She married the late Napoleon Barker and to this union three children were born. Ann was not only a great mother to her children, but Ann was also a “Mother” in her neighborhood.

Ann had a sweet spirit that she displayed to everyone she met. She was not only “Sweet Ann”; she was a messenger for the Lord. Her favorite saying was “In the Name of Jesus”, and her favorite song that she sang every chance she got was “I’m Satisfied with Jesus.” She let the world know that we could do nothing without the Lord.

Ann received her education in the Bullock County School System and later attended trade school to become a licensed beautician. She had a constant clientele, which she maintained for over 50 years.

Ann had a passion for serving, so along with her husband, she ran the Opportunity Store and later the Reno Café, where she served up a “sold out” menu of soul food daily. Her fried chicken, yams, and lemon pie recipes could not be duplicated. Because of her great reputation and culinary skills, Ann later joined the serving team at Davis Café in Montgomery, where she took great pride and pleasure in interacting with people from all around the USA and serving up delicious meals. Everywhere she went she was recognized by those she served as she went about her daily work.

Ann leaves to cherish her memories, two sons: Craig Barker of Montgomery, AL, and Rev. Rondriquez (Sharon) Barker, of Valdosta, GA; one daughter, DeShonda Barker, Montgomery, AL; three grandsons: Rondriquez, Jr., Jonathan, and Benjamin of Valdosta, GA; two great- grandsons: Jonathan and Javion of Valdosta, GA; five brothers: Henry Walker of Fairfield, AL, Belton Walker, Jr., Truman Walker, Oran (Icyphine) Walker, and Michael Walker, all of Union Springs, AL; seven sisters: Bobbie (Dock) McGowan of Perote, AL, Shirley ( Jimmy) Williams of Eufaula, AL, Emester Williams of Auburn, AL, Margaret Walker and Vivian Walker of Union Springs, AL, JoAnn Walker of Montgomery, AL, and Anchylus (Tommie) Agee of Andalusia, AL; one sister-in-law, Gayloyd Scott, Albany, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Jimmy (Queen) Barker of Montgomery, AL. She is also survived by host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Ann was preceded in death by one sister, Katie Walker Boyd

The Staff of Carter Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the Final Life Celebration Arrangements for the late Mrs. Annie Walker Barker.
