Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Ben Hill Christian Church located at 4099 Sunset Drive S.W. Atlanta, Georgia 30331. Minister Walter Poole will officiate and interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, 5755 Mallory Road in College Park.
The Family will receive friends on Monday from 11:45 until the hour of Service at the church.
Public viewing will be held on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
Due to COVID-19 concerns everyone in attendance at the viewing and the Funeral will be asked to wear a mask.
Obituary John Lewis Wilson was a native of Roanoke Alabama. Born to Louise and Eddie B. Cameron June 21, 1942. He answered God’s call on February 20, 2023. He was the oldest of 4 children. Rosie Mae, Eddie Wilson and Ronald Cameron. John Lewis attended Randolph County Training School and graduated class of 1960. He married his classmate Sandra Shealy December 24, 1962. They soon moved to Atlanta Georgia and had 3 children. Stephanie (preceded in death), Christina and Kendrick. John and Sandra also raised their grandchildren, Lushandra and Adam. The Wilson house was full of grandchildren, Maurice, Kirsten, Markus (Aderaylen) and Angel and great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Alden, Genesis and Skylar. John was a firm and loving parent and expected the children to always do their best. John and Sandra were married for 50 years before Sandra’s death in February 18, 2012.
John and Bridgette were married in holy matrimony on July 3, 2012. The 2 families were blended to form a strong bond. John and Bridgette moved to Greenville Georgia and started their life together on “Wilson” Acres. They planted a large garden every year which was John’s passion.
John worked for ACD Glass for 15 years before moving to Atlanta Contract Glazing where he worked as a fabricator for 19 years. The owner of the company, Sandy Johnson describes John as a doer, gentleman, craftsman, excellent in his work, producer of quality work. Sandy says, there has been no one to replace him. John attended Ben Hill Christian Church for 50 plus years as a Deacon, Elder, bus driver, all around helper in the church where ever needed. John was a constant support to Minister Poole and Assistant Minister Robbie Pate. The children loved John’s sense of humor and they all called him “Daddy.”
John was a president of Ways and Lakes Family Reunion for many years. This helped the Ways-Lakes grow to where it is today.
To know John is to love him. John made each person feel special, loved and welcome in his presence
