Mrs. Annie Rean Williams Respress began her life’s journey on a Tuesday, the 73rd day of the year 1928-- March 13, 1928 in Eufaula, Alabama. She was born to the parentage of the late Mr. Cliff Williams and Mrs. Eula Mae Holmes Williams, the third of five children born to this union.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Antioch Baptist Church. She was a very faithful and active member and served as a Ward Leader and a member of the Missionary Society. Mrs. Annie was a regular attendee of church who enjoyed worshipping and serving God. She would carry candy for the asking, and was fondly called “The Candy Lady”. She was also a member of the International Benevolence Society and an Eastern Star.
She was married to Mr. Joe Respress and they made their home in Eufaula. She was a stylist dresser, and often completed her outfits by adorning herself with a fashionable hat. Those that knew her would often hear her say some of her favorite sayings-- “I’m too blessed to be stressed”, “Time brings about a change”, When I pray, I pray for my enemies as well as my friends”, and when asked how was she doing?, she would respond, “Fair to partly cloudy” and with a smile. One precious memory she has left with us is her singing her favorite song, which she even sung during her final days—“Do You Know What Time It Is—It’s Time to Get Right With the Lord”.
She was preceded in death by: three siblings, Cleveland Holmes, R T Williams (her twin), and Virginia Elliott; her husband, Joe Respress; a daughter-in-law Beatrice Williams; and granddaughter, Kia Williams.
She leaves to cherish precious memories: her children, Robert (Juanita) White, Clinton, MD, Raymond Williams, Eufaula, AL, Annie Rea Curry, Panama City, FL, Willie Clifford (Cynthia) Williams, Opelika, AL and James E. Williams, Dumfries, VA; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; one sister, Rebecca Givens, Eufaula, AL; one brother- in-law, Emmett Elliott, Newnan, GA; one step-daughter, Annie V.
