Mrs. Grooms transitioned into eternity February 8, 2023, in Montgomery, AL.
The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Friday, February 17, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 2:00 pm from the sanctuary of the New Mt. Silla Missionary Baptist Church, Midway, AL. Pastor James Person will deliver the message of triumph.
In accordance with recommended COVID-19 Protocols, all attendees are requested to utilize appropriate facial coverings, maintain social distancing, and minimize physical contact.
Arttie B. Grooms was born November 4, 1946 to the late Cora B. Bowens and Oree Bowens in Barbour County, Alabama. She transitioned from earth on Wednesday, February 8,2023 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama.
At an early age Arttie B. accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Mt. Silla Baptist Church, where she served faithful until her health declined. She was a member of the usher board. She was educated at Merritt High school in Midway, Alabama. Arttie also worked for Mann’s Bait Co in Eufaula, Alabama and drove transit for OCAP in Midway, Al for several years. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, talking with friends and family, watching baseball (especially The Atlanta Braves), caring for her grandchildren and loving dogs Kiara and the late Charlie Wilson.
Arttie B. is proceeded in death by her parents Cora B. Bowens and Oree Bowens, two granddaughters ShaCoria Ivey and Kadeijah Fitzpatrick, a younger brother Louis Bowens, a special nephew Mackey Bowens, and a son in love Howard Ivey Jr.
Her memories will be forever cherished by her children Nelson (Charlie Mae) Grooms Haines City FL, Melvin (Cassandra) Grooms Union Springs, AL, Linda Battle Phoenix City, AL, Margaret (Kenneth) Bentford Montgomery, AL Sharone (the late Howard) Ivey Montgomery, AL Veronica Grooms Midway, AL, and Chamika (Jesse) Shepherd Atlanta, GA. A niece and nephew who, she reared as her own Kelvin (Lakesha) Bowens, Wetumpka, AL and Desheila (Fred) Buchanan, Tuskegee, AL. Sixteen grandchildren Byron Grooms, Jamaal (Shemika) Grooms, Xavier Bentford, Cortez Grooms, Desiree Bentford, Kalandria(Shontavious) Smith, Howard (Alicia) Ivey III, Samuel Battle III, LaCoria(Jonathan) Brown, Jamarcus Grooms, Khadejia Fitzpatrick, Derrica Harris, Eboni Grooms, JaMaya Grooms, Erica Lee, Kamron Grooms and 22 great grandchildren. Seven sisters Ozie B. Bowens (Twin), Evelyn Streeter, Celestine (Keith) Cunningham, Ethel (the late William Ford), Eloise Shepherd, Julia Bowens, Annie B. Smith, Cherry (Vernon) Herrington, Demetria (Daniel) Green, Six brothers Curtis C. Bowens, Otis (Jeanette) Bowens, Remell Bowens, Larnell (Shirley) Bowens, Leon Bowens, Jammie (Elaine) Bowens, Joseph (Gloria) Smith and James Bowens. One uncle Don (Sherry)= Bowens, a special nephew Dewayne (Brenda) Bowens and special cousins Anna Hillary and Eddie (Paullette) Bowens.
