Jethro Walker, affectionately nicknamed “Jeff " was born September 01, 1957, to the late Robert and Zearlean Walker in Midway, AL.
At an early age, he confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior and united in Christian fellowship with the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Midway, AL.
Jethro was a graduate of Bullock County High School Class of 1976. He attended Troy State University, majoring in Business Administration. Throughout his youth, he was known for his help on the family farm and especially for growing and selling sweet watermelons to the community. He was an avid basketball player throughout high school, a hobby he retained his entire life.
He united in holy matrimony to Shirley F. Moon on November 6, 1982 in Montgomery, AL. Shortly after marriage they relocated to Atlanta, GA. In 1984 the first of his three children was born. Jethro became a member of and faithfully attended Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Norcross, GA.
Jethro owned several business ventures throughout his life. His career began as a rising star in the A.L. Williams Insurance Company in the early 1980’s in Montgomery, AL and later transitioned to own a direct-mail advertising agency in Atlanta. He and Shirley also owned a flower shop, Carin’s of Mid-town, located in Midtown Atlanta’s Colony Square complex. They affectionately named the floral shop after their daughter Carin. Carin's of Midtown was only one of two Black retail businesses in Midtown and only one of three in all of downtown Atlanta.
Jethro was called from labor to rest Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in Bonifay, FL. He will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved him.
Jethro will be remembered for his caring spirit, strong faith and for being a gentle and loving father who was always actively present and hands-on with his children. With great expectations of academic success, Jethro strived to ensure a solid educational foundation for his children. When he arrived home from work, he often helped the children by checking assignments for accuracy. He treasured spending time with his family. He established every Friday night as “Family Night” where the family bowled, skated, watched movies, and/or played games to bring a fitting end to what he called a hardworking school and work week.
He is preceded in death by three brothers; Robert Lee Walker Jr., James Edward Walker and Willie Dean Walker. Cherishing the memory of Jethro are his three children, Brandon Ariel McAdoo Walker (Deborah), Decatur, GA, Alexander Stewart Walker, Atlanta, GA, Carin Celeste Walker Brazzel (Timothy II), Marietta, GA; four grandchildren, King, Nakoa, Timothy III and Daniel; two sisters, Betty Walker Guice (William), Midway, AL and Coleen Walker, Montgomery, AL; one sister-in-law, Sherry Ann Walker, Midway, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He also had a dear friend, JoAnn Walker. Jethro was the last survivor of the four Walker brothers.
We are comforted in knowing that he rests in peace with our Lord. “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." II Corinthians 5:8
