Obituary For Martha Fields

Mrs. Martha Surles Fields, 100, of Columbus, GA peacefully made her transition from earthly labor to heavenly reward Wednesday, November 23, 2022. She was the youngest of twelve children born to the late James and Millie Surles in Bullock County, AL on January 12, 1922. She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired SSG Hawthorne Fields; two daughters, Alma Holliman and Millie Binder; one son, Donald Elder Sr.; one granddaughter, April Elder.

Martha was a devoted Christian, loving matriarch, exceptional cook, and faithful member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Benjamin (Ruby) Elder; two caring daughters, Sue Howard, and Georgia Bledsoe, all of Columbus, GA; one daughter-in law, Linda Elder of Columbus, GA; fifteen grandchildren, Lavonne (Dwight) Benton, Wanda (Vernon) Suite, Marquetta Barnes, Vickie Britt, Kerry Elder, Michael (Coby) Bledsoe, Ronald (Margarita) Bledsoe, Rolanda (Bryon) Mack, Dr. LaJune Oliver, Ronald (Tricinda) Waites, Sharon (Phillip) Mickles, Susan Kirkland, Shelia Howard, Donald (Jerri) Elder, Tasha (Marquet) Sellers; nineteen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

Homegoing service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 11:00 am at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 3601 Youmans Street, Columbus Georgia, Rev. Muhundis Brice, Pastor, and Rev. Chad Bryant, Eulogist.

Interment will follow at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 beginning at 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM
