Obituary For Ellen Phillips

On Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, Ellen Smith Phillips, a beloved wife and mother of two, passed away at her home in West Point, Georgia. In hospice care for only a few days, Ellen died peacefully in her sleep after a courageous and brief battle with cancer. She was 61 years old.

Although she was born in the Big Easy (New Orleans), Ellen moved to Alabama following her adoption by the Smith family. Her childhood was spent as a Springwood Wildcat, receiving both her primary and secondary education at the pine tree dotted campus on the Alabama/Georgia state line. Following graduation, Ellen worked at West Point Foundry enjoying clerical duties until she decided to become a homemaker. Panama City Beach was her favorite place to travel, and she spent many vacations soaking up the Florida sunshine on the legendary pure white sand beach. Ellen adored all things Elvis and cheering for the Auburn Tigers on gamedays.

Ellen was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Ellaree Smith of Lanett, Alabama.

She is survived by her husband of 8 years, Bart Phillips of West Point, Georgia; sister, Jane Smith; son Dylan (Ashley) Harper of Lanett, Alabama; daughter Chelsea (Lamar) Landreth of Smiths Station, Alabama; and her two beautiful granddaughters Lakelyn and Ellaree Landreth. Ellen will be missed by Socks, her cherished 10- year-old dog.

The memorial will be held on Friday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at Bluffton Funeral Services.

In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/give/memorials-and-dedications.html?sc_icid=wtg-mm-memorial-giving.
