Deroski Marquez Harris, affectionately known as “D-Rock, Rocky and Rock”, was born December 10, 1985, at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, Alabama. He peacefully departed this life on May 17, 2022, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia.

Deroski attended Dawson Street Elementary School and Rothchild Middle School in Columbus, Georgia. In 2005, he graduated high school from Dawson Street Christian Academy in LaGrange, Georgia.

Deroski, a young man of great humility, kindness and determination, was fiercely devoted to those he loved. He was never one to complain regardless of his situation, and always carried a warm smile. Deroski had a very witty sense of humor, and his end goal was to help others find joy as he was always one to uplift. He was a loyal friend to many, sometime to a fault. Nonetheless, Deroski loved life and showed genuine compassion and care for others. As a youth, he was very active and athletic. His hobbies included: track and field, basketball, and football. He loved to read, write poetry, and had a love for nature and outdoor activities.

Deroski was a motivator—sharing positive thoughts and his own perspective. He was a listening ear to many younger cousins and a voice of reason to younger adults. He compelled his family, with a sense of urgency, to maintain loyalty, love and unity. He was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend.

He was preceded in death by: a special and loyal grandmother with whom he shared a bond like no other, Eva Booker Marshall; special uncle, Joseph Wayne Porter; and grandfather, Eddie Lee Tolbert.

His memories will be cherished by family and friends that love him more than words can express: his mother, Tina Harris (Horace) Mays, Durham, NC; his father, Dwayne (Katrina) Goss, Valley, AL; siblings: Monique Slack, Centerville, MS; Jeremy (Quatasha) Rogers, Raleigh, NC; Eboney (LeKeldric) Goss-Anderson, West Point, GA; Byron (Gina) Rogers, Fayetteville, NC; Brandon (Aniyah) Goss, LaGrange, GA; Shakeela Mays, Charlotte, NC; Darrian (Mariah) Ennis, Charlotte, NC; Galvin Goss, Valley, AL; grandparents: Henry (Myrtis) Goss, Lanett, AL; Susie (Clifford) Avery, Valley, AL; and Patricia Tolbert, Canton, OH; devoted, special grandmother, Barbara (Walter) Beaty, Valley, AL; uncles: Eddie Mitchell and Romello Tolbert both of LaFayette, AL; Tory Tolbert, Birmingham, AL; Markevious Tolbert, Norfolk, VA; Warren (Stephanie) Goss, West Point, GA; Jonathan (Tomecka) Woody, Valley, AL; and Kenneth (Kimbretta) Whitlow, Jacksonville, FL; aunts: Kenyani (Chester) Tolbert, Canton, OH; Karanda Billingsley, Laconda Holloway, Shanavia (Keota) Beaty, LaFayette, AL; Lisza (Ivan) Mack, LaGrange, GA; and Crystal Avery, Lanett, AL; four special uncles; Darron Rampey, Tobias (Shannon) Porter and Caleb Fears all of Canton, OH; and Jerome Rampey, Valley, AL; special cousin, Shantavia Shealey; a great-uncle; great-aunts; a great-great-uncle; great-great aunts; god-father, William Elroy Marshall; step-father, James Rogers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
