Mr. Howard Barnes, Jr., a resident of Lanett, AL, died Monday, January 31, 2022 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, AL.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Pine Hill Cemetery, 22nd Street SW, Lanett, AL with Bishop Donald Lancaster as Officiant/Eulogist. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.

Public Viewing is scheduled for Friday, February 4, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.

Mr. Howard Barnes, Jr. was born December 14, 1949 in Chambers County, Alabama to the parentage of Mr. Howard Barnes, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Dean Avery Barnes.

He was employed in textile for West Point Pepperell for many years. Later, he became a dedicated employee of the City of Lanett until his retirement. His favorite greeting was “What’s to it”—and after the reply, he would say “ain’t nothing to me baby”.

Howard was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Gwendolyn “Sis” Barnes; four brothers, Jerry Barnes, Anthony Barnes, Charles Barnes and Willie Gene Barnes; and, one sister, Beverly Barnes Smith. Mr. Howard Barnes, Jr. departed this life on Monday, January 31, 2022 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. He will truly be missed.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a precious daughter, Tameka L. Barnes (Carlos) Russell, Lanett, AL; three sons, Delarick (Letisha) Thomas, West Point, GA, Terrance ( The Honorable Angelia) Thomas and Howard Sanchez (Fredrica) Barnes both of Lanett, AL; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Barnes Williams, Opelika, AL and Darlena Barnes, Lanett, AL; sisters-in-law, Shirley Cleaves, Atlanta, GA, Letha Barnes and Shirley Barnes both of Lanett, AL; brother-in-law, Tommie L. Woody, Lanett, AL; and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
