Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Sunset Cemetery located at 34 Sunset Lane in Newnan, Georgia 30263. Rev. Anthony Melson, Eulogist.
Public viewing will be held Monday from 12:00 Noon until 7:00 PM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions everyone in attendance at the Graveside and the viewing must wear a mask and social distancing is encouraged.
Roger Lee Geter was born on April 1, 1959, to Mr. Leroy Geter, Sr. and Mrs. Lillia Mae White Geter in Newnan, Georgia, where he was raised alone side his siblings and shared many wonderful memories. He received his early Christian education from Bethel Heard Baptist Church and was a proud member of the “Class of 1979” from Newnan High School in Newnan, Georgia.
After school, Roger entered the U.S. Army to continue his growth. One of his proudest accomplishments in service was achieving expert marksmanship with the M16-rifle. During this time, he served as a light power generator and wheel vehicle mechanic, where he served honorably for four years. Returning to civilian life, he worked for a time with Georgia Power Company, and for years with American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T) Company, as a Service Technician.
As a young man, Roger married the love of his life, Ms. Brenda Lee Cameron of Hogansville, on January 25, 1991. He had six children, Catarra, Rashawn, Dayron, Sandtron, Kamaro, and Brenchella. Times with family and friends were his favorite. Roger was a founding member of the Essence Social Club of Hogansville in the 1990s, where he and others socialize and entertained. Special times with his children and grandchildren were his most cherished. He also took a special interest in mentoring and nurturing his nephews and was called “The Cool Uncle” by others. He was clearly, a husband, a dad, grandaddy, brother, uncle, and friends, but for some he will always be “Geter Man”. His more than 30 years of marriage and impact on his family was profound. In 2005, he retired from AT&T after suffering a health crisis and cut break his lifestyle.
On 20th November, while visiting family in Kansas City, MO, he was quietly called home to take his place among his ancestral elders. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings: Anglo Ogletree, and Brenda Kirkland.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Brenda L. Cameron-Geter of Hogansville, GA; Six children: Catrra Cobin (Latriena) of Snellville, GA, Rashawn Geter (Ameerah) of Loganville, GA, Dayron Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Santron (Jermonique) Burden of Franklin, GA; Kamaro Geter (Devonta) of Hogansville, GA; and Brenchella Geter of Hogansville, GA, and 12 grandchildren. Six siblings: Gerald Geter (Vanessa) of Newnan, GA, Leroy Geter, Jr. of Newnan, GA, Robert “Bob” Geter (Tracy) of Newnan, GA, Opal Geter-Gray of Newnan, GA, Shirley Geter Terrell of Newnan, GA, and Bobbie Echols of Hogansville, GA. Two uncles: Lewis Geter, Sr. of Columbus, OH and D.W. Jackson of Georgia and five aunts: Mrs. Alma Wood of Newnan, GA, Mrs. Louise Brooks of Turin, GA, Mrs. Mary Williams of Atlanta, GA, Ms. Shavon Geter of Columbus, OH, and Mrs. Diane Geter of Newnan, GA. Three brothers-in-law Willie T. Cameron, Jeffery Cameron (Cynthia), and Vincent Cameron (Vivian), and one sister-in-law Kameeka (Stantwan) Cameron-Crawford, all of Hogansville, GA, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and a special friend, Demetrius Norman.
