Obituary For Missie Mae Holmes

Carter Funeral Home announces the transition of Ms. Missie Mae Holmes of Ft. Davis, Alabama. Ms. Holmes, 81, peacefully transitioned into eternity October 14, 2021, at East Alabama Medical Center.

The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Monday, October 18, 2021, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.

The Farewell Celebration at Graveside will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 2:00 pm from the Union Oak Grove Cemetery. Pastor Moses Weaver will deliver the message of comfort and strength.

All visitations and services will be conducted exercising prescribed social distancing protocols and all attendees are encouraged to utilize appropriate facial coverings.

Missie Mae Holmes, affectionately known as “Knot,” was born December 25, 1937. She was the daughter of the late James Essex and Rosa Holmes of Downs, AL. Missie was a hard worker who was very loving and kind to all. She loved to laugh and enjoyed helping others.

Missie was preceded in death by 8 sisters and 6 brothers. She leaves to cherish her precious memories five devoted children including Doris Holmes of Fort Davis, Gloria Youngblod of Fort Davis, Ronnie Holmes of Fort Davis, Samuel Eugene (Lacey) Holmes of Union Springs, and Barbara Stinson of Fort Davis; Two sisters: Classie Holmes Bryant of Downs, Alabama and Beatrice Cloud Ingram of Tuskegee, Alabama; One brother Edgar (Annie Louise) Cloud of Fort Davis, Alabama; Sister-in-Law Vanessa Cloud; Fourteen grandchildren, Thirty great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, beloved relatives and friends, including special friends, Clifton Quinn, Tiawanis Drisker, Tony Parker and Steve Holmes, Jr.
