Ms. Teretha Cumberlander Darden, age 73, of West Point, GA transitioned on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at her residence.

Homegoing Celebration for Ms. Teretha Ann ‘Rita Ann” Cumberlander Darden is scheduled for Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. EST in the sanctuary of the Eagles Nest Cathedral, West Point, GA.

Interment will follow in the St. John Cemetery. Public Viewing will be on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. EST at the mortuary.

Due to COVID-19 concerns all in attendance are asked to wear a mask at the viewing and Funeral Service. Social Distancing is encouraged.

Ms. Teretha Ann Cumberlander Darden was born January 21, 1948 to the parentage of the late Willie Ben and Lillian Cumberlander. She peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at her residence.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Morris Darden on August 9, 1975. To this union three children were born. Teretha dedicated her life to Christ at an early age as a member of the St. John Baptist Church, Stateline Road and Cherry Drive, Lanett, AL. She later united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church, Wes Point, GA., where she served as a member and leader of the Mothers Board.

“Rita Ann.,” as she was called by family and close friends, was a Natural Beauty and possessed exquisite taste and style. She was a graduate of Harrison High School. She was employed as a seamstress with the Russell Corp. and West Point Stevens until her retirement.

“Rita Ann” was an avid horticulturalist; she grew beautiful plants and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Darden, parents; three sisters, Willie Pearl Cumberlander, Mary R. English and Ouida J. Houston; one brother, Willie O. Cumberlander; three nieces, Cherrylea Jackson, Veletha Houston and Tina Cameron; one nephew, Llewellyn “Luke’ Hanford.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: three children, DaMargaux Darden Kelley(Aundra), Hampton, GA, DeNicholas V. Darden(Anita), Union City, GA and Deretha V. Darden(Anthony Asonel), West Point, GA; seven grandchildren, Trenity Kelley, Dion Fowler, Dimarri Darden, Dijon Darden, Micah Kelley, Devin Darden, and Jayden Lindsay; one great grandchild, Mason Fowler; three god-children, Bishop Winston Fanning, Jaryl Fanning and Tyree Hodo

Teretha also leaves to mourn: two sisters, Phenia Mae Hanford and Olivia Cumbelander, Atlanta, GA; one sister-in-law, Jessie M. Cumberlander, Indianapolis, IN; one special nephew, Daniel O. (Beatrice)Davis, West Point, GA; special nieces, Deborah (John) Lowrey, Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; cousins, relatives and friends; special friends, Barbara Traylor, West Point, GA and Eartha James, Atlanta, GA.

Arrangements are by M. W. Lee Mortuary of West Point, GA.
