Obituary For James “Terry” Mitchell

Progressive Funeral Home respectfully announces the passing of James “Terry” Mitchell age 48 of Columbus on July 16, 2021.

James Terrence Mitchell entered this world on June 21, 1973 in El Paso, Texas to the delight of his parents James & Doris C. Mitchell. He was their third child and first son. From the beginning it was clear that Terrence was going to be close to his parents, especially his mother. Despite her passing early in his life, she remained a guiding light for him throughout his life. He would not end his day without checking on his dad. And when God saw fit to call them home on the same day it was shocking and painful. But no one really could fathom having to explain the absence of one to the other.

Terrence loved God. He was not ashamed to let anyone know that Jesus was his reason for being the man he had become. Terrence was a people person and he evidenced this through his role as a minister and a servant in the church body in many capacities (including prison ministry). Terrence loved life and he showed it by always finding a way to keep moving forward. A good laugh, a praise report, some good music, or anything positive that contained a “nugget” for life was right up his alley. Two of his favorite pastimes were watching movies and spending time with the love of his life, Jeanelle Bryan.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his siblings – Monica Mitchell, Traci Pollet, and Sean Mitchell; his nieces – Aleksi Reid, Shinette King, Corrine Pollet, Symonne Pollet, and Angelese Mitchell; his nephews – Ian Kelley and Christopher Mitchell; a brother-in-law – Stacy Pollet; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, co-workers, and others that just enjoyed his company.

James Terrence will be missed but never forgotten as he rests easy in the arms of our Savior Jesus Christ and enjoys the company of his parents once again.

The Homegoing Service for Mr. Mitchell will be Monday, July 26, 2021, at 10 AM in the Chapel of Progressive Funeral Home the interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Garden. The signing of the register book for Terry will be Sunday, July 25, 2021 from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.
