Born, March 19, 1970 , Pastor Ivey, shepherd of the Old Sardis Missionary Baptist Church transitioned into eternity Friday, December 1, 2017 in Montgomery, Alabama.
Celebration Services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 12 Noon from the sanctuary of the Old Sardis Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Fred Douglas , pastor of the Mt. Silla Missionary Baptist Church, will deliver the eulogy.
Interment will follow in the Old Sardis Baptist Cemetery.
Pastor Ivey will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to Celebration of Life Services.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, December 8, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
Pastor George Andrew Ivey was born on March 19, 1970 in Tuskegee, AL to Bishop (Esther) Ivey, Sr. and Tina Coley (biological mother). He was raised by his grandparents; the late Henry T. Ivey, Sr. and Delphine Martin Ivey. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age to Old Sardis Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Bullock County High School in 1989. He served in the Armed Forces. He was a Truck Driver for over 20 years until his death. George preached his first sermon, 2nd Sunday in March 1988 at the Mt. Hillard Baptist Church; under the leadership of Mr. G.W. Temple, who he called his father in ministry. He served as the Pastor of Old Sardis Missionary Baptist Church until his time of death. He was a member of Samaritan Lodge #90 F. & A.M.
On December 1, 2017, God called an angel home to eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Henry T. Ivey, Sr., Delphine Martin Ivey, and Freda Coley, his brother Derrick Ivey, Sr., his uncle Oscar Depriest Ivey, and his cousins Howard Ivey, Jr., and Thomas T. Ivey.
He was united in holy matrimony to Teresa Sankey Ivey and he leaves to cherish his memories; a loving wife, Teresa Sankey Ivey, Union Springs, AL; 3 sons, Jamarco Ivey, Sr. (Shareese), Andrakus Ivey, and Treshun Ivey (Andrietta), Union Springs, AL; 1 daugther, Judy Ivey, Luverne, AL; 1 grandson, Jamarco Ivey, Jr.; loving parents Bishop Ivey, Sr., Esther Ivey, and Tina Coley (biological mother); grandmother, Alice Gould, Montgomery, AL; 4 Sisters, Rhonda Ivey-Anthony (Terrence), Union Springs, AL, Vanessa Ivey, Montgomery, AL, April Jackson, Savannah, GA, and Leslie Potter, Montgomery, AL; 1 brother, Bishop (Keisha) Ivey, Jr., Union Springs, AL; aunts, Shelvia Ross (Solomon), Union Springs, AL, Alberta Hinton, Union Springs, AL, Catherine Burrell, Vineland, NJ, Cheryl Harmon, Bridgeton, NJ, Diane Lokey, Colorado Springs, Co., and Rose Groce, Augusta, Ga, uncles, Howard (Mary) Ivey, Sr., Henry T.
