Obituary For Ms. Mary Griggs

Griggs, Ms. Mary Booker, a resident of Lanett, AL, died Saturday, June 5, 2021 at EAMC-Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Graveside Services are scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. (EST) at Pine Hill Cemetery, Lanett, AL with Rev. Karanja Story, Pastor of Rehoboth Baptist Church in Valley, AL officiating. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.

Public Viewing is scheduled for Friday, June 11, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.

Mary Joyce Booker Griggs was born October 7, 1940 in Langdale (now Valley), Alabama to the parentage of George and Rosetta Spratling Booker, Sr. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and joined Rehoboth Baptist Church in Fairfax (now Valley), Alabama. She was a cheerful giver in serving and used her talent as a member of the church Culinary Ministry.

Mae, as she was affectionately called, worked at West Point Pepperell for over 27 years until retirement. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She would always drop little nuggets of wisdom that would sustain you for a lifetime.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, three brothers, Willie C. Booker, George Booker, Jr., and Jimmy Booker; and, four sisters, Rosa Lee Booker McCants, Linda Lee Booker, Mary Barrow and Allene Booker. Mary departed this life on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at EAMC-Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, Alabama.

Her loving memories will be cherished by: four children, Teresa (Billy) Feagins and Brenda Booker (Charles) Lowe both of Douglasville, GA, Tedius (Lavaria) Griggs, Valley, AL and Beverly (Derrick) Burton, Lanett, AL; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Annie L. (Eddie) Hall, Emma S. Houston, Maxine Avery and Martha Strickland; two brothers, Zachary (Earnestine) Booker and Jerry Booker; guardian niece and great-nephew, Tocca Booker and Isaiah Booker; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Booker and Geraldine Booker; god-children, Tammy Griggs and Lisa (Henry) Porter; and, a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
