On July 12, 1961, David Glenn Rutledge, Sr., known to family and friends as “Dave Boy”entered this world to the late Peggy Ruth and John William Rutledge, Sr. as a fraternal twin to his sister, Daisy Lynn.

At an early age, David joined Springfield Baptist Church, Hogansville, Georgia where he continued to worship over the years.

In 1980, David graduated from Hogansville High School where he was a star athlete who achieved many accolades in football and basketball. After high school, David continued his education at the University of Louisville on an athletic scholarship in both football and basketball. After one year at the University of Louisville, David transferred to Southern Union State Junior College on an athletic scholarship in basketball. After college, David worked various jobs in the textile industry and later discovered his passion as a truck driver, which spanned a career for more than 30 years until his death on June 3, 2021.

David was a champion who achieved many athletic accomplishments in basketball and football. Most notably, just as David in 1 Samuel of the Bible, our David was his family’s protector here on earth. He was a protector who displayed the most genuine smile that could brighten any room and lift anyone’s spirit. David’s humorous and cordial approach opened the door for him to develop many lasting friendships. David loved hanging out with family and friends and had a passion for sports and sports cars and owned several but his silver corvette was by far his signature car. David leaves his family and friends with many joyous lifetime memories to treasure forever.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Rutledge, Sr. and three sisters, Carol Sue Hopson, Jeanette Rutledge and Beverly Ann Rutledge.

In 2000, David joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Glenda Francine Patterson Rutledge. They have been married for 20 years and together for 37 years. They have two sons, Kowalski Patterson and David Rutledge, Jr. both of Hogansville, Georgia and six grandchildren: Deshaun Gates, Kyshaad Patterson Jordan Hayes, Kirastin Cameron, Davion Rutledge, Jaceyon Hayes, Kayden Edward and Aubrey Terrell.

David also leaves to cherish his memories: eight brothers and sisters, Katie R. Darden, Vickey Rutledge, Peggy Nell Rutledge, Janice Sanders, John W. (Carolyn) Rutledge, Jr., Daisy Rutledge, Billy Rutledge, and Regina (Jimmie) Dukes, all of Hogansville, Georgia; three sisters-in-law: Patricia Cameron of Hogansville, Georgia; Brenda (James) Gates of Opelika, Alabama; Lillian Patterson of Hogansville, Georgia; five brothers-in-law: David Hopson of Atlanta, Georgia; Arthur Brown of Tucson, Arizona; Stanley Patterson of Pine Mountain, Georgia; Joe Brown of Lagrange, Georgia; John Patterson of LaGrange, Georgia; one uncle, Lewis Tigner of Hogansville, Georgia; four aunts, Mandy Heard of Grantville, Georgia; Thelma Rutledge of Atlanta, Georgia; Annie (James) Hall of LaGrange, Georgia and Katie B.
