A native of Warm Springs, GA. and the son of the late Frank and Jeannette Parham Caldwell, Mr. Caldwell had resided in Columbus most of his life and retired from West Point Pepperell Mills after 42 years of employment. He was Christian in faith, an avid fisherman and loved to tinker with cars. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Odessa Caldwell and five sisters, Ruth Hensley, Frankie Brooks, Barbara Stevens, Bessie Starks and Elizabeth Caldwell.
Survivors include his loving children, James Caldwell, Jr(Angela), Melvin Caldwell(Sonja), Gregory Caldwell, Marcus Caldwell, Carether Calloway(Richard), Sandra Patrick(Johnny), Margaret Stevens(Nehemiah), Gale Johnson and James Caldwell, Jr(Vanessa); two siblings, Willie H. Caldwell(Frances) and Susan Johnson(Buddy); and a host of grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. Caldwell will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park on Saturday, June 5, 2021 following a Twelve O’clock Noon Homegoing Celebration in the Chapel of Progressive Funeral Home, Inc.
Visitation for public viewing begins at 12:00 Noon Friday at the funeral home.
