Obituary For Ike Rogers

Celebrating over a century of experiences, Carter Funeral Home announces the transition of Deacon Ike Rodgers,103, of Midway,Alabama.

Born May 1,1914, Deacon Rodgers,a devoted member of the Antioch Baptist Church,transitioned into eternity Thursday, May 4,2017.

His earthly tenure will,be celebrated Saturday May 13,2017 12:00 noon at the Antioch Baptist Church of Midway. The pastor,Rev. Jimmy Averett will deliver the eulogy.

Deacon Rodgers will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to Celebration of Life Services.

Interment will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday,May 12,2017 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.

Deacon Ike Rodgers was born on May 1, 1914 to the late Ivory and Angeline Warren Rodgers in Bullock County, Alabama. At an early age, Deacon Ike Rodgers confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior and united in Christian fellowship with the Mt. Hillard Baptist Church in Perote, Alabama. He later united with the Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. On June 10, 1932, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Bessie B. Penn-Rodgers, who preceded him in death on December 26, 1986. God blessed this marriage with four beautiful children, one grandson and one granddaughter whom he raised as his own.

One son and one daughter preceded him in death (DeWilson Rodgers and Cora Goodgame). He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in the Southern Springs Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: two sons, Rev. Eligh (Mable) Rodgers of Birmingham, AL, Corwin Matthews of Auburn, AL; one daughter, Jessie Pearl Rodgers of Phenix City, AL; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rosie Rodgers of Augusta, GA; 15 grandchildren; 42 greatgrandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren; 11 great-greatgreat grandchildren; a devoted nephew, Mr. Richard Rogers; a devoted niece, Ms. Ollie Bell Mason; two very special caretakers, Ms. Carol Hampton and Ms. Laney Echols; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
