Dorothy worked as a Private Duty Nurse around the shore area for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was once a worthy matron, assuming duties in the absence of the presiding officer. Dorothy was active in the VFW, Cobra One Motorcycle Club, American Legion and the “Red Hat Mamas.”
Dorothy met and married Albert Hairston Jr. on September 8, 1952. They were married for sixty-nine years. Anyone who knew Dorothy knew she had a zest for life. She loved to play the lotto. She was a world traveler, traveling to Hawaii, Germany, France and Guam, just to name a few. Dorothy loved to joke that she was “sixteen” all her life. Dorothy especially loved and adored her son, Albert. She spoiled him in every way possible.
Dorothy now is in glory with her loved ones who preceded her in death including, her parents, Herman and Mabel Spencer; two sisters, Lucretia Richardson and Geraldine Sanders; three brothers,Walter, Floyd and Sedlo Spencer.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories her beloved husband, Albert Hairston Jr.; son, Albert Hairston III; a sister, Shirley Mitchell; seven grandchildren, Shanique Hairston, Corey Owens, Lavaughn Ricks, Devanee Hairston, Albert Hairston IV, Andrew and Armond Williams, as well as, a host of wonderful friends she loved.
Graveside will be held at 1:00 p.m. ET, Saturday, February 6, 2021 in the Marseilles Cemetery, West Point, GA with Pastor Brenda Pritchett Rhodes serving as the Eulogist.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
