Alice Mae Floyd Calhoun “Sugar” was born in Mitchell Station, AL on September 27, 1922, to Mary Ann Floyd and David McDaniel. Alice and her sister Mattie were reared by their grandparents (Charlie and Fannie Floyd) due the early death of their mother.
Alice accepted Christ at an early age and joined the New Elam Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to the Mt. Mariah Baptist Church where she remained a loyal member until her departure.
Alice later married Spencer Calhoun, Sr. and to that matrimony they bore loving and caring children. Alice’s life was filled with love for others and her doors were always open to family, friends and those in the community. Those who knew Alice will say she truly lived up to the name Sugar, she was as sweet as her name. She was the neighborhood mother, and her home was “HOME” to many. She later returned to Montgomery, AL to live with her daughter Ella Ousley and Son in law Jeremiah Ousley until her passing. She passed December 3rd in the Pike road Community. She will be missed.
