Mrs. Lydia Hines Matthews was born May 16, 1942 to the late Sam and Mattie Mae Hines, in Meriwether County.

She attended school in Meriwether County where she learned family and core values. She married her husband of 59 years, Charlie Matthews Jr. on February 25, 1961. They had 6 beautiful children: Richard, Jimmy, Danny, Stevie, Angela and Alisa.

Mrs. Lydia Matthews was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she joined at an early age. She enjoyed bible study, singing in the choir and helping the church out in any way she could. She was a talker and people person who met no strangers and always kept you laughing. She was known for being a great cook and enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family, after church. However, her true passion was the outdoors. She loved painting and planting flowers. She made sure she kept her yard looking its best.

She was a kind, loving and free-spirited person. We will cherish the moments, the laughs and love. She will be greatly missed by all.

She departed this life on October 4, 2020. Nine brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories, husband Charlie Matthews Jr.; sons Richard Matthews (Carol), Jimmy Matthews, Danny Matthews (wife), Stevie Matthews (Kate); daughters Angela Burston (Barron) and Alisa Vaughn (Gerald); 12 grandchildren: Tineshia, Tirell, Tisheyia, Danielle, Dee, Deontae, Latoya, Deshun, Monique, Daniel, Isabella, and Lydia; 6 great-grandchildren: Aariyanna, Jayden, Jordyn, Skylar, Leya and Jonas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends and one very special friend Jannie Hines.
