Clemmie Mae Tolliver McBryde (Boot), faithful, sharing, and loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend completed her earthly journey and God-given assignment on Sunday, September 20, 2020. Clemmie was born on January 1, 1955 to Frank Wilson Tolliver and the late Ethel Mae (Simmons) of Union Springs, Alabama; she was the first child of nine siblings. Clemmie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Cornerstone AME Zion Church in the Cornerstone community of Union Springs, Alabama. In a spirit of servanthood, titles meant nothing to her. Her goal was always to give support to her family, community, and church in every capacity required. From a young age, Clemmie worked tirelessly in her church serving as President of the Stewardess Board, active member of the AME Zion Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society (WH&OM), Culinary Ministry, Usher Board and through her special ministry work in the Christian Education Department and Vacation Bible School. Clemmie was a servant-leader who led in excellence…not only in her church, but everywhere she went.
Clemmie was a member of the graduating Class of 1973 of Bullock County High School and a graduate of Southern Vocational College. She faithfully served various employers including, Diversified Products, Tuskegee University Marriott Food Services, Great Southern Outdoors, US Census, and most recently the Bullock County Board of Education as a paraprofessional serving at both Union Springs Elementary School and South Highland Middle School.
On March 18, 1977, Clemmie married the love of her life, Ellis (Mack) McBryde, Jr., of Tuskegee, and they remained happily married and best friends through the remainder of her life. The couple cherished their family life as they were blessed with the birth of two daughters Candice and Eboni and the addition of a bonus daughter, Trina. Clemmie and Ellis shared hobbies such as hunting and even their business, C&E Dry Cleaners in Union Springs, AL for a number of years, which is where her ministry really took root in the community by serving others. She loved God’s people and did not have to be asked to help others. To those who knew her well, she is often described as the most real, practical, humorous, and caring person who always believed in doing right by others.
Clemmie transitioned to her new home with the Lord on Sunday at the Columbus Specialty Hospital in Columbus, GA after waging a courageous battle with a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her mother, one brother, Bennie Frank Tolliver and three brothers-in-law, Henry McBryde, Larry McBryde, and Luevonner Hoffman, Jr.; one uncle, Tom Tolliver, Jr.; and one aunt, Bernice Tolliver.
Clemmie leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted husband, Ellis McBryde, Jr.; two beautiful daughters, Candice Renee (Terence) Dillard, Riverdale, GA; and Eboni Nicole McBryde, Atlanta, GA; one bonus daughter (baby sister), Trina Marcell (Ali) Nkhazi, Atlanta, GA; her father Frank Wilson Tolliver; three sisters, Eva Mae (Jay) Murray (Midway, AL); Shirley Ann Tolliver (Saginaw, MI); Francine Tolliver (Union Springs, AL); three brothers, Charlie Frank (Chandra) Tolliver; Jimmie Rogers; and Kenneth (Angela) Babers; two “grand-boonies” who were her precious stones, Justin A. McBryde and Jasmine R. McBryde; two sisters-in-law, Oretha Hoffman and Dorothy Muse Thorn; one aunt, Alberta Tolliver; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who love and miss her dearly.
The Staff of Carter Funeral Home is honored to support the McBryde Family with End of Life Services.
