Obituary For Leonard Williams

Carter Funeral Home humbly announces the transition of Mr. Leonard “Country” Williams, 62, of Union Springs, Alabama.

“Country’ as we knew and loved him, peacefully transitioned into eternity on July 31, 2020.

Celebration of Life Services and Interment will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 2:00 pm from the Mt. Azure Missionary Baptist Cemetery in the Three Notch Community.

The message of comfort will be delivered by Pastor Roosevelt Grant of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.

Public visitation will be held Friday, August 7, 2020 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.

All services and visitations will be conducted exercising prescribed social distancing protocols. Facial coverings for all attendees are mandated per an executive order of the Governor of the State of Alabama.

Mr. Leonard “Country” Williams was born in Union Springs, Alabama on September 23, 1957 to the late Lamar and Willie Mae Williams. He was the eighth child of nine children. He accepted Christ at an early age.

He later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was educated in the Philadelphia School System.

His favorite pastime was playing the base guitar; he also loved music and “Bee Bopping”.

In the early 80s, he relocated back to Alabama.

Country was also preceded in death by one son, Jr. Scott Williams; three sisters, Bessie Bristow, Annie Elder and Callie Mae Williams; one brother, Henry Evans.

He leaves to cherish his memories: three daughters, Alisha Glasco, Union Springs, Alabama, Lenny and Sharone James, both of Raleigh, North Carolina; four sisters, Loretha Williams, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Melvina Evans, Christine Moss (his ‘Road Dog’), and Gloria Himmons, all of Union Springs, Alabama; one brother, Sherman Terrell Braxton, Fort Walton Beach, Florida; one aunt, Cora Lee Evans, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; special niece who grew as his sister, Olivia States, special nephew who grew up as his brother, Luster Bristow; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
