Obituary For Mrs. Mary Lee Heard

Heard, Mrs. Mary Lee, a resident of Valley, AL, died Friday, July 17, 2020 at EAMC-Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley, AL.

Graveside Services are scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. (EST) at Zion Rest Cemetery, Valley, AL with Rev. Frederick Stanley officiating. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.

Public Viewing is scheduled for Friday, July 24, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.

Mary Lee Winston Heard was born August 8, 1922 in Chambers County, Alabama. She was the 3rd child born to the late Willie and Hattie Mamie Rivers Winston, Sr. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Shawmut (now Lanett), AL.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Napoleon Heard on June 12, 1940. They were married 58 years and this union was blessed with 11 children. In later years she and her husband joined Zion Rest Baptist Church in Valley, AL. She was an active and faithful member where she served on the Usher Board, the Matron’s Board, served as a Sunday School teacher, the Deacon Wives Counselor and in other capacities as well.

Affectionately known as “Mother Heard”, she chronologically served faithfully as the “Senior Mother” of the church. She was an active member of her community—participating in various events at the local community center and the local voting polls. She was also an Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Deacon Napoleon Heard; one daughter, Hyburnia Heard Fears; one son, Ceasar Lee Heard; four sisters, Ada Lucille Winston Howard Johnson, Sally Kate Winston McCary, Mary K. Harper and Juanita Edwards; and, two brothers, Willie Winston, Jr. and Richard Wright, Sr.

On Friday, July 17, 2020, the Lord saw fit to call one of His special angels home, Mary Lee Winston Heard. When she made her transition home to be with the Lord, she was surrounded by family. She will always be remembered and her legacy will live on.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: nine children, Clarence Napoleon Heard, Spurgeon Anthony (Delois) Heard and Gary Kenneth Heard all of Valley, AL, Chester Heard, San Antonio, TX, Dale Heard, Huntsville, Jerome (Judy) Heard, Tampa, FL, Dora P. (Eli) Luke, Temple, GA, Marcella Heard, Montfort, Atlanta, GA and Drewciller Heard Hardy, Valley, AL; 28 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian (Abraham) Livingston, Tampa, FL and Shirley Thompson, Columbus, GA; one brother, Eugene Wright, LaGrange, GA; one sister-in-law, Essie M. Harris, Lanett, AL.; and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
