Mr. Gatlin was born in Dothan, Alabama June 21, 1949 to the late Charles and Lessie Hall Gatlin, he grew up in the Columbus, Georgia and the Phenix City, Alabama area.
He graduated from Central High School in Phenix City, attended Southern union Junior College where he met his wife of 49 years and graduated from Auburn University with a B. S., then graduated from Virginia Commonwealth with a Masters while being in the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society.
He was a highly decorated Veteran earning the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Parachute Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal (Clasp 69-70) Meritorious Unit Commendation, Presidential Unit Citation, Expert Marksmanship Badge, 4th Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia, and Army Vietnam Class A Insignia (6th Infantry Battalion).
Bob spent most of his professional career in the human resource field. Upon retirement, they moved to Martha's hometown of LaFayette where they have lived for the past 18 years.
He is survived by his Wife Martha Lee Gatlin of LaFayette, Al. 2 Sons Charles Robert Brown Gatlin Wife Ariana of Missoula, MT. Chase William Warner Gatlin Wife Amanda of Spring Hill, TN. Grandsons Ethan, Hunter, Harrison, and Hagen.
A private family graveside service will be held.
