Emanuel “Frog” Atkinson

Mr. Emanuel “ Frog” Atkinson, of Jonesboro, GA, formerly of West Point, GA transitioned on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Jonesboro Nursing and Rehab.

Emanuel Atkinson, who was known as “FROG”, was born in West Point, GA on November 28, 1935 to the late Sandy Atkinson Sr. and Ella Pearl (Strozier) Atkinson.

At an early age Emmanuel left home and joined the Military (Army), where he served three years. After the military, he moved to Atlanta, GA and was later married the late Elois Atkinson. Frog left Atlanta and relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived for many years. While residing in Brooklyn he met Ms. Mary Frances O’Kelly and three children were born.

In later years Frog moved back to West Point, where he resided until failing health. . His family made the decision to move him to Atlanta, so they could properly care for him. He remained with them until his passing. He loved West Point and always talked about returning back home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers; Sandy Jr. (Bubber), Willie (Hugh), Curtis, Steve, and Robert (RL), one sister Mattie (Ninny) and his daughter, Carla Germaine O’Kelly.

He is survived by his son, Emanuel (Vanessa) O’Kelly; daughter, Tonia (Walter) Washington; grandchildren, Corey (Michelle) Lawson, Kendra Brown, Brittany O’Kelly, Donald Scott, Rashanna Washington, Porsche Thomas, Amber Washington and Montel Washington; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Morris (Glenda) Atkinson, Lithonia GA; two sisters, Liz Summers (Crawford) Lee, Jonesboro, GA and Francis Hunter Malone, West Point, GA , and two loving sisters-in-law; Paulette Hill, Cincinnati, OH and Bernice Huguley Atkinson, Jonesboro, GA, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday, May 17, 2020 in the Marseilles Cemetery with the Rev. Jerome Spence, Officiant.

Public viewing will held on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at the mortuary.
