Mrs. Mamie Louise Grate of Columbus transitioned home peacefully Friday at St. Francis Hospital at the age of 81.

A daughter of the late Mr. Genie Coty and Mrs. Mattie Edmonds Coty Bailey, Mrs. Grate was born in Pittsview, Alabama and attended the William H. Spencer High School. She furthered her education by attending Columbus Technical College. She was employed with Southern Foods and later while serving as a military wife, worked at AAFES in Ft. Greely, Alaska. She was a former member of the Wynnton Hill Baptist Church was currently attending Canaan Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, SFC Alonzo Grate, Jr. Surviving her departure with cherished memories, include: her son, Nayman Taylor (Debbie) and Robert Bonner; five grandchildren, Yolanda Taylor, Daysha Bonner, Phillip Bonner, Christina Bonner and Kalissa Johnson; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Janie Webb and Sallie Wedner; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

There will be a Private Celebration held for Mrs. Mamie L. Grate.
