Obituary For Clifford Leroy Talley

Clifford Leroy Talley (81) of Newnan, GA, passed away on April 17, 2020, at Monarch House in Newnan, GA, with his wife and daughter by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Brady and Sara Thompson Talley of Penton, AL, and his older brother Lavon Talley of Stone Mountain, GA. He was survived by his wife of 57 years Eleanor Anglin Talley, his daughter Elizabeth (Dino) Cervone, granddaughters Catherine and Christina, brother Ted (Jean) Talley, and sister-in-law Valda Talley.

Leroy was born in Penton, AL, on January 15, 1939, and was Valedictorian of his class at Milltown High School. He graduated with a B.S. in Textile Engineering from Auburn University and an M.S. in Textile Technology from the Institute of Textile Technology in Charlottesville, VA. He was in ROTC while in school at Auburn. After grad school, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army, stationed at U.S. Natick Labs in Natick, MA, doing materials research. After the Army, he worked in plant operations for West Point Pepperell (WPP) in Valley, AL; Anderson, SC; and Lumberton, NC. He and his family moved back to the Valley area in 1972 when he began working in Management Information for WPP. From 1983 until his retirement in 2005, he was employed in the telecommunications industry as MIS Director, Director of Human Resources, Operations Director, and VP-Human Resources at TelecomUSA, Interstate-Valley Telephone Company, ITC Holding Company, and Deltacom.

Leroy put God’s word into action. Before moving to be close to his daughter and her family in Newnan, he served as an Elder at Spring Road Christian Church for many years. He also was on the Board of Directors for Servants in Faith and Technology and the Boys and Girls Club of Chambers County. He loved music, particularly church music. He played the organ and piano and had a beautiful tenor voice. He sang solos and in the choir at church, anything from old-time gospel songs to contemporary to the “Hallelujah Chorus.” In addition to performing, he especially enjoyed watching his granddaughters’ theatrical and dance performances. He also liked spending time on the water, fishing and boating with family and the family dog. Of course, he was also passionate about Auburn football.

Leroy loved his God, family, church, work, friends, and community. He and his wife have maintained long-lasting relationships with co-workers, friends at church, and neighbors. If you ask them, they will say these special people are more family than friends.

A memorial service will be held at Spring Road Christian Church in Lanett, AL, on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at 2:00 pm EDT. The family will greet friends following the service. Light refreshments will be served during this time. The service will be live-streamed at https://www.facebook.com/blufftonfuneralservices/ (see clickable link below).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial gifts be made to Servants in Faith and Technology (SIFAT), 2944 County Rd 113, Lineville, AL 36266, or Spring Road Christian Church, 1729 Spring Road, Lanett, AL 36863.
