Carter Funeral Home humbly announces the transition of Deacon Morris L. Calhoun, Sr. 84, of Union Springs, AL.

Deacon Calhoun, a faithful servant leader of the Second Baptist Church in the Thompson Community peacefully exchanged life for eternity on Thursday, April 9, 2020 in Montgomery, AL.

Services and interment celebrating his earthly tenure will be held Saturday, April 18, 2020 at 2:00 pm from the Second Baptist Church Cemetery. The message of triumph will be delivered by Pastor Eddie C. Jasper of the Haynes Chapel Baptist Church.

Deacon Calhoun will lie in repose at the church from 1:00 pm until the service hour.

Public visitation will be held Friday, April 17, 2020 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.

Public visitation and services will be held exercising prescribed social distancing protocols.

DEACON MORRIS LEE CALHOUN SR. was born November 22, 1935 in Union Springs, Alabama to the late Mr. James Henry Calhoun and Mrs. Effie B. Calhoun. He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of the Second Baptist Church, Thompson Community where he received his religious foundation. Morris received his secular education from the Bullock County Public School System.

A FAITHFUL SERVANT Deacon Calhoun relocated to Saginaw, Michigan where he enjoyed a fruitful career at the General Motors Corporation, where he retired after 32 years of service. In 1985 he moved back to Union Springs, AL to care for his mother. While in service to his church and family and community, He served on the Deacon Board for several years and became Chairman of the Deacon Board until the Lord called him home April 9, 2020. Morris was also preceded in death by one sister, Bessie Mae Surles, four brothers. Samuel, Rev. Major L, Rev. Nathaniel and Rev. James E Calhoun.

HIS LEGACY LIVES ON He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Diana B Calhoun of 36 years. Two daughters, Kimberly (Jerome} Davis Indianapolis, Indiana, Maureen L Calhoun, (Nathan Williams) Union Springs, Al. One son, Morris (Michelle) Calhoun, Saginaw, Michigan. Two step-Daughters, Belinda (Larron) Rainey, Fairburn, Ga. Tamboura L Little, Bronx, New York. Two sisters, Johnnie Mae Burt, Saginaw, Michigan. Effie J Lyons, Union Springs, Al. Two brothers, Johnnie Lee Calhoun, Harvey, Illinois. Minister, Melvin (Yvonne) Calhoun, Saginaw, Michigan. Nine grandchildren: Sierra (Peanut) Williams, Amari Jumper.Teairra Jumper, Sarrah Rainey. Dashawn Calhoun, Jaylon Jumper, Xavier Davis, Dominik Calhoun, and Larron Rainey. One great grand, Amir Jumper. Two sisters-in-law, Mattie Calhoun and Lisa Calhoun. Three Goddaughter: Ebony (Jerome Jr) Jackson, LaTeal Sykes, Brittny Hall. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
