Grady Simpson, Jr. was born October 15, 1930 in Evergreen to Grady Simpson, Sr. and Pauline (Lee) Simpson in Conecuh County, AL (Evergreen). After graduating from high school, he went on to serve in United States Army in the Korean War. Grady also attended Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) where he graduated in 1957 with his Bachelor’s degree. He was a devoted teacher and coach in Hogansville and 35 years of service in the LaGrange School System until his retirement in 1992. Coach Simpson led the 1961 West End High School Varsity Basketball Team to a district championship. He also served as an educator at West End High School, East Depot High School, LaGrange Boys Junior High, and Gardner Newman Middle School.

Grady was a devoted member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. where he received Omega Man of the Year in the Alpha Xi Chapter, and served as chairman of the Deacon Board and Deacon Emeritus at Springfield Baptist Church for over 30 years.

Grady also served on the Troup County Board of Tax Assessors for over 10 years, and served many years employed with Thrash & Sons Funeral Home where he was honored in 2017 for his many years of service.

All that knew Grady knew his love for his family, church, fraternity, and Tuskegee University. Homecoming games and the HBCU Turkey Day Classic was a tradition for him. He entertained everyone with hilarious storytelling, his giving was always genuine, and he had a heart of gold. He will truly be missed.

I remember visiting the Springfield Baptist Church on forth Sunday in August, Homecoming service. I was wearing nice purple tie and shirt with a Omega pin on my suit jacket lapel. He stopped me after the service and put me through a challenge to see if I was to be wearing the Omega Pin. RIP my Frat Brother. RQQ

My childhood was filled with many wonderful memories. Whenever I would go to Hogansville one of the "Must Stops" was the Simpsons Home. He would always greet you with his infectious Smile! It was always a joy to hear him chop it up about sports especially highschool and college. He would never stay still for long because he on the was always move. I dont ever remember him Sitting down much because he would always be in the midst of doing yard work or on his way to church. His home was always peaceful . Rest in eternal peace Mr.Simpson RQQ.
