Obituary For Cassandra ”Tutie” Hoats Hicks

Cassandra” Tutie” Hoats Hicks passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020 at her home in West Point, GA. She was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 14, 1946.

The family will greet friends for Visitation on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 10:00 am EST at West Point 1st United Methodist Church Zachery Center followed by a Memorial Services at 1st Methodist Chapel at 11:00 am EST. Reverend John Mattox will officiate.

She was proceeded in death by her mother Leohla Lee Hoats, her father Jack Llewellyn Hoats and her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Hicks.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters in law John (Beth) Hoats, Kenneth(Heather) Hoats, Hunter (Dee) Hoats. She also is survived by her nieces and nephew, whom she loved dearly, Brandon Hoats, Corbin Hoats, Curry Hoats , Lillie Hoats and Stephanie Gragg.

Cassandra can best be described as a helper. She devoted her life to helping others, whether that was helping her own family or those she encountered in her years of working in Mental Health and Substance Abuse. She had a passion for helping the underdogs in life. Whenever she encountered what she felt was an injustice she would fight passionately to see that it was righted, sometimes at her own expense. She set an example for those in her circle that encouraged them to reach further.

Cassandra and Bob’s home was a place of merriment and laughter. Many birthday parties and other family celebrations took place there. There were numerous pets as she had a passion for animals, which she probably inherited from her mother. The pets in her life were often “worshipped”, many times to Bob’s amazement! She was supportive of her family. She was unselfish and generous with those she loved as well as those she may have just met if they were in need. Her family members will always remember her generosity and will honor her by continuing that wonderful trait in their own lives.

“Tutie” was loved by many. Since her death, stories which “sang her praises” have been told in abundance by both friends and family members. She would be pleased and humbled by all of the kind words spoken in her honor.

She will be greatly missed. But in faith we will heal and know that all things work together for good for those who love God, and that she did. Amen

In lieu of flowers please make donations to West Point 1st Methodist Church or the Humane Society.

What a kind and special person Cassandra was. She was a wonderful high school counselor to my son, and she was a good friend. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Growing up together in WP, only Sandra could get me to walk the trestle, many times. Sandra made us laugh and pushed us to be our best. She was incredibly kind, and fun, and fearless. I treasure every adventure we shared and all that she taught me...besides walking the trestle, the rest will remain unsaid and therefore, deniable. All my best to Bubba, Kenneth and Hunter - Jane Cohn Langley

I am treasuring many memories of Sandra these past few days. There are the silly things we did, like her putting a blond streak in my black hair (not good!), cruising all over the Valley with no destination in mind, and stalking boys. I will always remember best, and I shared this on FB in November, that the school board forbade us from going to DC on our senior trip to the World’s Fair in NYC due to civil unrest if I remember correctly. Not one to be deterred, and absolutely determined to visit the grave of her beloved President Kennedy, Sandra batted her eyes and flashed her dimples at the bus driver and chaperones and just like that we were in Arlington Cemetery standing before the eternal flame. Sending love and prayers to Bubba, Kenneth, Hunter and your families.
